Liverpool
v Newcastle |
| |
As
has been the case in the previous 3 seasons Liverpool have started
slowly but this has usually just been a problem away from home.
They narrowly lost out to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but showed
some promise during the game and carved out some good chances.
So far in this Premiership campaign they've only played the
once at Anfield in what turned out to be a crucial victory against
a stuttering West Ham side after going behind. Newcastle's new
signings both scored in a weekend victory away at Upton Park
over the weekend; one for Duff and another for Martins will
have given their strikeforce confidence and there are signs
that the partnership of Ameobi and Martins is starting to yield
dividends. Where Liverpool should have the edge is against Newcastle's
weak defence which is not top Premiership quality; Shay Given
leaving the field injured against the Hammers in the 86th minute
will have been a blow. Liverpool are more likely to cause Newcastle
problems than vice versa but if Newcastle can take confidence
from their first away victory they could get something. However,
a home win looks likely. |
