Only 2 places and 1 point separate these two in the bottom
half of the table but both should be safe from relegation.
Newcastle were extremely poor at home to Southampton but still
managed a win despite their defence having holes in it you
could drive a bus through. The back four didn't play as a
unit and Bramble and Boumsong look like amateurs; Boumsong
in the French squad gives hope to all their World Cup opponents
come June. The big positive for Roeder will have been the
performance of Dyer who got the winner and showed far more
than his partner Ameobi. Shearer should be back for this one
after a calf injury and Dyer looks likely to start up front
with him. The Magpies have only won 5 at home this season
but face a Charlton side who's away form has dipped considerably
since just before Christmas. They have only taken 1 point
from their last 6 games on their travels and though they are
still picking up points at the Valley Curbishley needs to
instill some grit and resolve in his players when away from
home. This will be a tight affair but with home advantage
Newcastle should just edge it.
